The Medium

Why Acrylics on Canvas?

Besides their fast drying quality, acrylics are relatively non-toxic to work with and offer tremendous flexibility and excellent, archival quality results. As for the canvas, it’s well-suited to my type and scale of work. Prepping a canvas properly is an art in itself. It’s very Zen and I enjoy working with it. It's rigid, flexible, durable and fragile all at the same time. After twenty years of getting familiar with these mediums I'm still learning and don't see the point in departing from this path now.

Why such a large format?

Impact and resolution are some of the desired objectives. I want my art to be visible and recognizable from a great distance as well as from just a few inches. When you stand close to one of my paintings, it should encompass your entire field of view and draw you in.

Have you worked with other mediums

Yes, I’ve also worked with charcoal, pastels, wood and metal. I’ve designed and built some contemporary furniture pieces and even worked with jewelry. I’ve also done some welding and metal fabrication, but most of my fine art has been achieved with paint.
