What keeps you going?

I see images in the distance that keep pulling me forward. There are a lot of paintings in my head just waiting for their time to be realized and I sometimes feel like the fuse is just burning too fast. In the process I try to challenge myself and keep raising that bar within.

What is your favorite pet peeve in relation to art?

If I had to choose a few, it would be mediocrity amongst certain artists and promoters to continue creating variations on the same tired, outworn themes just to satisfy popular opinion or the market...that's such a huge disservice to oneself.  Also, being an artist isn't a license for eccentric behavior. It would be nice if we could stop idolizing the hype and start recognizing more original and inventive art.

What advice would you offer to other aspiring fine artists?

Take responsibility for your life and your art. While you're finding your way, get and hold onto a job that you enjoy and will give you the time and the means to hone your technique. Learn to draw well and don’t ever stop drawing…no matter what your medium. Study the works of the Great Masters because there’s a lot to be learned from those who have gone ahead. And for the love of Phi…practice good composition. If you do these things, pretty much everything else will fall into place.
